Captive Audience

When we got to Captiva, we decided not to stray far from the resort. That left just a handful of restaurants in Captiva. Our first night there, we ate at The Green Flash, a beautiful restaurant on the water. I had the Venetian Platter, which was very good. It had 2 giant prawns, two sea scallops, a small piece of both salmon and sword fish, and a decadent piece of pan fried polenta. Yes…. I ate like a linebacker that night…green_flash.jpg

We also ate at the Bubble Room one day for lunch. Its very eclectic and we were waited on by what looked like a boyscout (?) The food was just OK, but the restaurant had so much personality it made up for the mediocre food. They say it’s a “Goldmine of Nostalgia.” Check out more cool pictures on Stephan’s blog.

During breakfast on Saturday, we went to an adorable little outdoor restaurant (that will remain nameless) that served us bagels that were covered in melted butter. Stephan pointed at the mirror like sheen and asked what happened to it? The server said they always (heavily) brush the bagels with butter after toasting. That was a first… and just wouldn’t fly in Miami or NYC!

So, after several disappointing meals, we got smart the last night, and went to the Captiva Provisions Company which had an amazing array of gourmet foods, wines… etc… We picked up a bottle of Cabernet, a piece of brie, roasted red pepper bruschetta and a bag of toasted French bread rounds and had a lovely picnic out on the balcony. Magnificent!
