Every summer, some of the best restaurants in Miami offer a Miami Spice menu. The menu consists of three course meals at one set price; Lunch is $23 and Dinner is $36. Of course, due to the reduced prices, the portions are smaller than usual, but definitely enough to leave with a full belly. It’s the perfect opportunity to try out some of the swankest Miami eats without breaking your wallet.
A handful of the participating restaurants are offering a Sneak Preview from June 16-23, so check ‘em out here. Otherwise, you can try them out during the ENTIRE month of both August AND September. Local blogger, MenuPages has a fantastic “unofficial” guide for the restaurants and their menus. If you live here, or find yourself in Miami during August or September, Spice it UP!

Stephan and I will be travelling to Punta Cana this weekend for a fabulous wedding and some much needed R&R. Everyone have a nice weekend!

In sharp contrast to our experience (above) we also dined at Flemings (Coral Gables) recently. WOW, now THIS is YUM!!! Exceptional service, wine selection, food, tastes, ambiance… I can’t say anything bad about it, but BOOK EARLY, because the dining room is small and diners in the know will fill the space quickly!! Charming, delicious, fresh, chic, impressive. A definite YUM…FLEMINGS is a perfect example of a GREAT dining experience!!!!! enjoy!

We love great eating experiences, and have enjoyed many of the restaurants participating with Miami Spice. A few weeks ago we tried CHEF ALLENS (in Adventura) thinking it would be an incredible experience after hearing and reading so many accolades about the place (and about the chef) over the years. wooooo… were we WRONG!!! Everything about the place– the food, the service, the ambiance and the chef (who we met briefly) were less than impressive!!! The food was acceptable, but NOTHING recommendable. We took friends to be impressed and left feeling embarrassed!!! The service was average (to be nice) and the food followed suite… disappointingly! a soggy vegetable starter, bland tastes, whole shrimp in wine sauce (tasty– but with head/legs still present) and an inquiry of our dessert interests BEFORE our dinner ever arrived!!! The chef showed up shyly to say hi, but even his presence was lacking enthusiasm. I don’t know… but I would question what all the fuss has been about. NOTHING to write home about at Chef Allens!!! With so many fantastic dining choices out there this is definitely ONE TO SKIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sorry chef, just stating the absolute truth!!

My husband and I took advantage this past Saturday and went to Prime Blue Grill. We ordered from the preview Miami Spice menu. It was very generous for $36. I had the grilled shrimp and the Cajun Ribeye, followed by chocolate cake. My husband had the Ceasar salad, the steak and a strawberry shortcake. All in all it was good but I don’t think it was exceptional. The service was impeccable. The clientele is very “chichi” and I suspect it’s more of a be seen kind of place… Last year we did a few but our favorite was Michy’s which we plan on doing again in August.

We went to Talula last year during Miami Spice and it was fabulous. I’d like to go to Blue Door and DeVito and Michys and Wish. OK, I’d like to go to all of them! Let me know how you and Meli like Abokado.

Meli and I already made reservations to go to Abokado’s in Mary Brickell during the sneak peak.
Do you have any suggestions for MUST GO places you and Stephan have enjoyed?
